Build a Website for Your Podcast
The most popular option for creating a podcast website is Wordpress. It’s very customisable as you can install plugins from the community of users to make your site look amazing and to give it even more functionality.
To give you an idea of what you can achieve by creating your podcast website using Wordpress, here are a couple of huge organisations that run on Wordpress; NHS (National Health Service, UK), and TIME Magazine.
As soon as you start the process with Wordpress, you get asked for all the basic information, such as your website name and what your site will be about.
You’re then asked to pick a domain name. If you already have one, you can click “Already own a domain?” at the bottom. If you don’t already have a domain, you can get a free “.wordpress.com” domain or select from a bunch of paid options.
You can then pick which plan you want your website to be on. This all depends on what you think would suit your podcast best, how much customisation you want and also whether or not your want Google Analytics.
Finally, you fill in your account details so you can log in and out of your website, and that’s it! You’re all set up and ready to create your website.
Creating Your Website
Once you’ve got your account and basic site set up, you can start adding content. First, let me explain the difference between Pages and Posts. Pages are what we call static content, meaning that they don’t really change. They are there every time a user goes to your website and pretty much always look the same. These would be your Homepage or About page for example. Posts are changeable content, so these would be blog posts, and they are generally time-sensitive.
So from here, you can easily set up your Homepage, as well as other static pages if you wish. You might want to have an About page, to give your listeners a little more information on what the podcast is actually about. Or you might want to have a Contact Us page, so that your listeners (or potential sponsors/advertisers!) can get in touch with you. This is your site so it’s completely up to you how you want to design it, and what you want the aesthetic of your podcast to be.

There are plenty of Podcast plugins to get you up and running on Wordpress, so we’ll look at a few of those here:

This one is for those of you that might already have your podcast on iTunes or Soundcloud. You simply pop your iTunes/Soundcloud URL in and the plugin does the rest of the work for you. Still extremely effective and useful for those who feel like they need a helping hand with setting up.

A slightly more difficult one to use, this plugin also gives you access to all the backend coding. This means you can customise everything about your podcast to suit your needs. You can actually adjust every single bit of code, tailoring it specifically.
