Going Beyond Bedroom Podcasting
Time to move on from your basic studio setup and upgrade your equipment. Go beyond bedroom podcasting with a professional studio ideal for multiple guests.
There's a point in everyone's life where you realise you've outgrown the things around you. Whether that's you job, friends, or your home, one thing is for use... it's time to move onto bigger and better things! In podcasting terms, that means upping your equipment game, going beyond bedroom podcasting.
As you grow, you'll soon need BIGGER and BETTER equipment, a FASTER turnaround, and maybe even in-house staff to do some of the hard work to keep up with demand. As daunting as that may seem, others have had to go through the same hoops.
How Podcaster's Are Breaking Free
Wait! You're not sure that your little bedroom podcast can get any bigger!!!?? 😱 Well, if the She's In Russia podcast can move from their bedroom setup to bigger and better things, so can you!
There’s really no need to re-invent the wheel, I tried and it was a stupid annoying amount of work.
Kitting Out Your Studio
I know what you're thinking... "But where do I go next"!?
Well, we’ve got the answer… a studio! There are a few options you can go for when it comes to finding the right studio for you that suit different budgets and space requirements. If you’ve got the space, you could build your own home studio. This will be the most expensive option because of course there are many elements to building a home studio.
You have to think about materials, equipment and soundproofing. If you have the time, space and money to build your own studio then go for it! There’s no point commuting if you don’t have to is there?
Hiring a Professional Podcasting Studio
The other option is hiring a podcasting studio. Most of these studios will charge a rate per hour for you to use the equipment. If you use the studios repeatedly, which you probably will do then the likelihood is the studio will charge you a slightly smaller fee for the repeated use.
We have a podcasting studio available for hire here in Manchester, UK why don’t you check us out. We also have studios on their way in New York 🚕 and London 👑 so keep your eyes peeled for those.
Using the Perfect Equipment
If you want to continue doing your podcast at home or on location then you’ll need better equipment.
A very basic setup would involve a USB microphone and standard headphones used with Audacity. These are great to start off with but when you’re taking your podcast to that next level you’ll need a little bit more.
A few changes can be made for a more professional setup:
Switching to an XLR microphone such as the Rode Podmic which retails at approximately $99 and partnering it with a sound desk such as the Rodecaster pro will improve your audio quality.
Upgrading your software from Audacity to a paid program like Adobe Audition can help with your audio quality as well as making editing easier.
Investing in things like pop shields, windshields and boom arms can help to improve the quality of your output.
Finding the Right Podcasting Heroes
Finding people to work with can help your productivity, speed up your turnaround, and improve your content. Your podcasting team should consist of...
- Producers: Help with organisation and improvement of audio and content. Our Manchester (UK) based podcast studio also provides a friendly and skilled producer for you to work with!

- Writers: Offering transcripts can help you to reach a greater audience with your podcast.

Beyond Bedroom Podcasting
It’s a good idea to identify where the extra work needs to be done and grow your podcasting empire accordingly. If you’re finding editing easy and have plenty of time to do it then hiring an editor isn’t necessary. If however, you feel your audio quality needs to improve then getting a better microphone is necessary.
